About Us

Family-owned and operated, Wanaja Farm is located along a beautiful scenic route in Oldham County, Kentucky in the heart of historic countryside just minutes from Louisville. We are a state-of-the-art boarding and dressage training facility, and we welcome other disciplines, as well.  We offer riding lessons at all levels and for all ages.

Jane Retamoza, Owner/Barn Manager

The farm is owned by Jane, an Oldham County native, and her husband Ernest Retamoza from Stockton, California.    Ernest is a former Thoroughbred jockey turned Thoroughbred trainer.  He is a hands-on trainer, specializing in the breaking and training of young horses, and rehabilitating horses with mental and physical problems. Jane is the daughter of W.H. "Bud" and Nancy Millard, well known in the local horse community as two founders and initial members of the Long Run Hunt Club of which they served as master and secretary, respectively, for many years.

Janie was raised with horses, and was a 10-year member of the United States Pony Club(USPC), showing extensively as a junior/young rider.  She has fox hunted with the Camargo Hunt Club in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Iroquois Hunt Club in Lexington, Kentucky, the Long Run Hunt Club in Eastwood, Kentucky, as well as with the Galway Blazers, North Galway, Kilkenny, Scarteen, Clare, and Limerick hunt clubs in Ireland.  She was one of the first two employees of Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky, one of the premier Thoroughbred Farms in the world today.  She galloped race horses for Hall of Fame trainer, Jack Van Berg, where she met her husband, Ernest, who was assistant trainer at the time.

Jane's philosophy is 'the care of the horse comes first' and it shows from her hard work around the farm.  She oversees all horses diligently and communicates well with all boarders, providing recommendations and assistance if necessary.  She also provides lessons for beginner to intermediate-level riders.
